Healint: Data Science, Analytics and Better Life

Richard David Bach, an American writer once said, “Any powerful idea is absolutely fascinating and absolutely useless until we choose to use it.” Francois Cadiou’s idea of amalgamating analytics in the various healthcare units is an example of how true Bach’s ideology is. Since his early days, Cadiou, the co-founder of Healint always wanted to work for an innovative start-up and help scientists and tech-experts in their battle to transform the healthcare sector. Cadiou gathered information about Data-Management and Statistical processes used for developing new drugs whilst working in different pharmaceutical suite. He also took a good note of R&D planning, purchasing, and negotiations. “These were good bases for the ‘work hard and focus on results’ state of mind, but I had to find mentors and complementary people as associates! I found most of them through the INSEAD here in Singapore, in Japan and Europe. I was never alone, and that was the real start,” sparks Cadiou.

With core competency in transforming medical units, Healint yields an intelligent data platform in-corporated with predictive analytics to find the most efficient source of treatment. Healint’s built-in sensor engine designed with specific data acquisition methods streamlines the users’ communication and helps them to select the most appropriate action. The solution educates patients about their changing health condition and helps them take preventive measures to understand triggers, symptoms, and relief methods.

Founded in 2013, Healint is a Singapore-based healthcare analytics company that leverages data science to address the pain points of medical units. The firm uses sensors and machine learning engines to acknowledge the behavioral patterns of body and find insights for possibility of any chronic medical conditions. “Understanding patients’ behavior and its implications is crucial to helping patients and their caregivers to intervene earlier as needed,” adds Cadiou.

The mobile phone sensors bestow a wide range of user data without reforming any of their daily habits. Adding on this, Healint cutting-edge machine learning engines brings analytics to other data sources as well.

As a renowned organization for modernizing the healthcare services, Healint assimilates technology to mobile devices, backend data analytics, pharmaceutical studies, epidemiology studies, corporate wellness programs, and insurance. With a team of professionals from Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices sectors incorporating 40 years of relevant experience, Healint proffers tailor-made solution to its various partners in the healthcare sector.

During his tenure in the pharmaceutical company, Cadiou realized that there is a huge bridge between the actual needs of patients to what the pharmaceuticals suite offers. Recalling one of the incidents, whist studying at INSEAD, his dad suffered a stroke and he had to search for a doctor for three days. The problematic scenario encouraged Cadiou to bridge the gap in the pharmaceuticals unit are facing. He further explains, “Ok that’s it, this time I will take what I’ve learnt, observe and work on solutions that would make the healthcare system more efficient”.
To gather better insights and improve the choice of treatments for patients, Healint built Migraine Bud¬dy—an app that pictures analytics to compile a data¬base of clients in different countries. The app edifies patients to measure various variables such as pain intensity, triggers (such as alcohol consumption, stress, physical exertion and, oddly enough, consumption of aged cheese), and sleep patterns. This data is then filtered with Healint’s other data to find key problems the patient withstand. Cadiou sparked that the app got great responses in U.S. market; helping its clients’ to smoothen the treatment process and initiate reimbursement process by healthcare insurance providers. The product further found its roots in Japan with the app being translated in Japanese. Cadiou also added that average age of users of the product is 30 with kids aging 4 seen leveraging the service.

Within a year, Migraine Buddy user base have found home to over 400,000 users and has logged over 2 million migraines. The product gives an estimate of sleep hours leveraging on the details of movement of users’ mobile phones. Driving on the big data platform, Migraine Buddy accommodates 24 billion minutes of sleep data and has developed a robotized sleep detection algorithm. Additionally, the product can also predict when a user might be about to switch medications by studying their current treatments results.

Since its inception, Healint has brought analytics and other Business Intelligence tools into the healthcare unit to add more value to its clients. An organization’s success lies in the trust it builds among its customers. “First, focus on people. People are more important than IP, far more important,” implies Cadiou. Going further, Cadiou envisions embarking a healthcare ecosystem where patients can cut down their medical expenditure. The firm also intends to join hands with other healthcare units and expand its services on the global scale.
